3 Exquisite Meals You Can Make for Under $10 from Price Chopper

It is definitely easy to eat cheap in Syracuse. You can get a burger with fries and a drink for under $8, but what if we told you that for under $10, you could make yourself an exquisite meal with little effort? It’s possible to be equally easy on you AND your wallet.

Price Chopper is a good place to start, though you may prefer another chain. Cheaper grocery stores have a reputation for being low in quality, but if you buy packaged products and check the expiration dates, you have no reason to be worried. Here are a few recipes with their prices.

1. Garlic-Shrimp Scampi

• 3 tablespoons butter
• 3 cloves garlic, chopped
• 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon pepper
• ½ lemon, juiced
• 1 teaspoon red chili flake
• ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped
• ½ lb spaghetti, cooked
• Butter: $0.87
• Canned Shrimp : $3.29
• Lemon: $0.79
• Spaghetti $1.00
• Parsley: $1.79

Total: $7.74

The Steps

  1. Warm a pot on medium heat and melt the butter in it.
  2. In another pot, cook spaghetti according to package instructions.
  3. Chop garlic and add to the butter
  4. Cook until browned
  5. Add the shrimp, salt, and cook until the shrimp is pink.
  6. Add the lemon juice, chili flakes, and parsley.
  7. Add the spaghetti and toss until evenly coated.

2. Rich Broccoli Soup with Garlic Bread

• 1 head of broccoli
• 1 tablespoon sour cream
• 1 loaf crusty bread
• 3 tablespoons butter
• 3 cloves of garlic
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon pepper

• Broccoli: $1
• Bread: $2
• Sour Cream: $0.12
• Butter: $0.87
• Garlic: $2.99

Total: $6.98

For the Soup

  1. Chop the head of Broccoli
  2. Boil in a pot of water until tender
  3. Cool, and then puree in a blender or food processor.
  4. Add the water it was boiled in for a smooth mix
  5. Heat puree with the rest of the broccoli water until it comes to a boil
  6. Turn down the heat and let it come to a simmer, stirring frequently.
  7. Take off the heat and add the sour cream
  8. Add salt and pepper as desired
    For the Garlic Bread
  9. Chop the garlic and add to the butter
  10. Microwave both for 30 seconds
  11. Make cuts into the bread, slicing but not all the way through
  12. Pour the melted butter over the bread
  13. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes at 200 degrees

3. Grilled Chicken with Cumin Rice

• 1 Chicken Breast
• 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
• 1 Tablespoon Salt
• 1 Tablespoon Pepper
• 1 Cup Rice
• 1 Teaspoon Cumin
• 1 Onion, sliced
• 1 Tablespoon Butter

• Chicken Breast: $4.29
• Olive Oil: $1
• Rice: $2
• Onion: $ 0.48
• Butter: $0.87
• Cumin: $0.7

Total: $9.34
For the chicken

  1. Score chicken breast with the tip of a knife
  2. Rub with salt and pepper
  3. Drizzle with Olive oil and bake at 375 F, 20 minutes for each side
    For the rice:
  4. Cook rice according to package instructions
  5. Heat butter in a pan
  6. Once hot, add the cumin seeds
  7. Add the onion and fry for 2 minutes
  8. Add the cooked rice and toss
