5 Fall Date Ideas for Central New York

Leaves are changing colors, sweater weather is here. It’s fall, and date ideas to do with your “bae” or significant other, besides Netflix & Chill, can be just as fun and creative, even with chilly weather. After deliberation with some friends, I’ve compiled a list of five fall date ideas that would be perfect to do in Central New York. With these ideas, you’ll be falling for each other in no time.

1. Apple Picking

Apple pie, apple cider, apple fritters — just think of all the delicious things you can make with the apples you picked on your date. Apple picking is one of cute fall date ideas because it’s a no pressure date situation. You can get to know each other while still having fun. Picking has become a great fall destination for the families and dates.

Apple picking farms and orchards offer seasonal fun in addition to picking, you can go on hayrides, eat hot apple cider donuts and sample different types of cider.

In Central New York, here are 7 great places to go apple picking: Beak & Skiff, Abbott Farms, Burrell’s Navarino Orchards, Critz Farms, Behling Orchard, Owen Orchards, and Ontario Orchard.


2. Leaf Peeping

Leaf Peeping is a popular activity for the fall in Central New York. Right now, the region has transformed into a romantic, fall colored landscape. There are well over 25 locations to go to if you want to go leaf peeping. At the Adirondack Mountains you will probably find the most popular spots for this fall activity. South of Syracuse, you will find the beautiful Catskills. Other places you can check out for a date are the Green Lakes, Finger Lakes region or the Capital District Region near Albany. For more advanced dates, it is great to rent a cabin in one of the regions listed above and spend an entire fall weekend in nature.


3. Going to a Pumpkin Patch

Pumpkin season is here! Pumpkin flavored foods are everywhere, appearing on seasonal menus in restaurants and being sold in the supermarket or farmers market. Going to the pumpkin patch is a great way to have fun, and use your pumpkins for all sorts of fall activities, such as pumpkin carving, enjoying the pumpkin seeds or making roasted pumpkin for dinner. Visit a few farms this season to pick pumpkins for fall decorations or to make some hearty fall recipes.

4. Visiting a Corn Maze

Go on adventure and get lost together, literally. This a different fall date that can add a challenge to your date as you work together to try and find the pathway through the rows of corn. Also, if you have a little first date anxiety, you can let out the initial jitters by focusing on trying to solve the maze. Once you feel more comfortable, you can start getting into deeper conversation with each other. Stoughton Farm in upstate New York, currently has a Super Mario Bros. corn maze design. This fall date idea is unique, you can spend time with a special person, enjoy fresh produce, kettle corn, hay rides, a jumping pillow, and many more activities to add some fun back into your love life.


5. Hiking together

Surrounded by many beautiful mountains and lakes, Central New York owns a wealth of diverse scenery to take a hiking trip. Autumn both brings pleasant climate for outdoor activities and the mood to enjoy the beauty of nature. Couples will not want to miss the opportunity to go hiking together and explore the trails. But, don’t forget to bring food for a cute picnic.
