The Best Pumpkin Ice Cream in CNY

Gannon’s ice cream

It’s officially Fall, which means it’s time to pull out your oversized sweaters and bundle up for some crisp Upstate apple-picking and hayrides. But pumpkin-spice lattes and warm apple cider aren’t the only treats for the upcoming chilly afternoons. Local ice cream parlours and soft serve stops are now serving seasonal flavors, like classic pumpkin, that are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. Here’s where you can find them.

Colorful fruit and berry twist at Gannon’s

Gannon’s Isle Ice Cream 1525 Valley Drive, Syracuse, NY, 13207

A favorite among locals, Gannon’s has been family-owned and operated for over thirty years. It has received dozens of Syracuse New Times’ “Best Of” awards and has been featured on Buzzfeed’s “27 Ice Cream Shops You Need to Visit Before You Die.” This season, Gannon’s is serving up Pumpkin and Pumpkin Chip flavored ice cream, made with real pumpkin and mixed with chunks of chocolate. They’re also introducing two other unique Fall flavors later this month: Apple Pie, an apple-based ice cream with a graham cracker crust, and Tollhouse, a brown-sugar based ice cream mixed with walnuts and chocolate chips.

Pumpkin flavor ice cream suits well with their wallpaper at Arctic

Arctic Island 210 W Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse, NY 13205

Located right next to Broadway Cafe, this is the perfect stop to enjoy a warm deli sandwich and a cool sweet dessert. Arctic Island is currently serving pumpkin ice cream, and will begin offering homemade apple crisp and sweet potato flavors around Thanksgiving. They also take requests for full take-home containers, so you can share a bucket of any of these seasonal flavors with your friends and family today.

Vintage berry vibe at Abbott’s

Abbott’s Frozen Custard 4282 Fay Rd, Syracuse, NY 13219

Founded in Rochester, NY in 1926, Abbott’s Frozen Custard has since expanded to over 40 locations, and serves hundreds of thousands of customers across CNY each year. The Syracuse branch of Abbott’s is currently serving up smooth pumpkin-flavored soft serve, best enjoyed in a homemade waffle cone. But supplies won’t last long! Abbott’s will be closing for the season beginning October 1, which means that you have a couple of weeks left to take advantage of this seasonal favorite.

Big Dip Ice Cream 216 N Main St, North Syracuse, NY 13212

Located in North Syracuse, Big Dip is known for its wide variety of milkshakes, flurries, sundaes, and of course soft serve. This season they are offering pumpkin soft serve, made with real pumpkin pie filling. You can get this flavor twisted with vanilla in a cone, or just have a cup full of pumpkin.

Peter’s Polar Parlor 3345 Milton Ave, Syracuse, NY 13219

Open seasonally from April to October, Peter’s Polar Parlour has been a seasonal tradition in CNY for almost 50 years. In addition to their signature Fall pumpkin flavor, Peter’s is also serving a maple flavor: a custard-based ice cream that tastes just like maple syrup. Hurry to Peter’s to taste this unique Fall treat before it’s too late!
