LivableCNY is One Year Old
“The people, places and ideas that make CNY a great place to live”
When we started this site that was the big scary idea; we would tell the world that Central New York was a great place–to work, study, play, eat, laugh, dance. And to raise a family. And meet great people.
That’s what LivableCNY all about. The region has experienced economic decline for decades, but the people here are still working hard to make the region flourish. During this first year, we met many of them, and their stories have inspired us. From Doug Nicolaisen’s quest to serve the best coffee you’ve ever tasted, to Frederick Werner’s quest to advance the practice of orthopedic medicine, to Nina Davuluri’s warm feelings for the region, we’ve been amazed by the people who live in a small corner of New York but still manage to make the world a better place.
We learned about the hard work people like Tom Rubada do to keep the city open through some of the heaviest snowfalls in the country, or the way Mary Alice Smothers works to create a safe and strict place for Westside children. And we learned something new about the less known work celebrities like Jim Boeheim do, like investing in small businesses that build our community.
We’ve worked on this site for one year, and like the people we cover we’ll continue to work hard. Coming soon we’ll have stories about great CNY businesses like Terakeet and SideArm Sports.
LivableCNY wants to be your go-to website to learn about the great place you, and we, call home. If there are stories you’d like us to explore let us know by e-mailing us.
One more thing. To celebrate our birthday we printed up a bunch of cool t-shirts with our logo. And we built an online store to sell them. Please check it out.
